- Dr. Iris von Hörsten qualified as a medical doctor from the University de Chile and Medizinische Hochschule, Hannover, Germany (with distinction).
- Born and brought up in Germany, she has lived and worked in Chile since the late 1990s.
- She has trained and practised as a homeopathic doctor from the outset of her medical career, and studied and wrote her thesis on its founder, Dr Samuel Hahnemann.
- She has worked for the past 15 years as a practitioner and an active promoter of homeopathy in the public health service, and currently directs the homeopathy unit in one of Santiago’s biggest public hospitals, the San Juan de Dios. In addition, she runs her own practice.
- She carries out research, and lectures and presents papers both nationally and internationally on her topics, which include the uses of meditation and relaxation techniques, and flower essence therapy. She has worked to develop interest and use of these techniques among nurses and doctors working with cancer and HIV/AIDS patients, as well as with other serious illnesses.
